After qualifying in City & Guilds Phases I & II in Amenity Horticulture, I gained further experience as the Assistant Head Gardener of a large country estate in East Yorkshire, a post which I held for 9 years. I then went on to become a freelance journalist and writer.
I have since worked as an ecological surveyor, and as a guide on wildlife, walking, and sailing holidays in Scotland.
My working life is now taken up with maintaining quality gardens of distinction in Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire under the business name of 'The Plantsman', and I also work as a gardening writer for a number of monthly magazines, including Kitchen Garden, and Cambridgeshire Agenda.
